Coroner identifies 3-year-old killed from gunshot wound

SUMTER, SC (WIS)- The Sumter County Coroner's Office has identified the 3-year-old who was fatally wounded Tuesday morning.

Coroner Harvin Bullock says Qui'ontrez Moss was killed in the incident.

Sumter Police Deputy Chief Alvin Holston says the incident happened at the Magnolia Manor Apartments located on South Pike Street near Highway 401.

Holston says police received a call from a resident around 10 a.m.

Police found the boy dead from a single gunshot wound.

Missing woman returned to home in good condition

SUMTER, SC (WIS) - A mentally disabled woman who walked away from her home Monday night has been found in good condition.

Deputies say somebody discovered 33-year-old Sabrina Stallings Tuesday afternoon. Authorities did not release where she was found.

Stallings was last seen walking into the woods behind her caretaker's Treetop Lane home around 6:30 p.m.

The caretaker called the sheriff's department about 30 minutes later. Deputies responded and began searching. SLED's helicopter assisted with the search.

Two Sumter Schools Recognized as Top Schools in SC for raising money to help beat cancer

Students at Thomas Sumter Academy and Wilson Hall were recognized among the top three schools in the state for raising funds to help beat cancer during the month of February. Since 1982, Thomas Sumter Academy continues to remain at the TOP spot in South Carolina raising a collective total of over $400,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School & Youth Programs. Reclaiming first place this year, the Generals campaign theme “Knock out Leukemia” raised $22,162.05.

United Way hotline helps SC families with taxes

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Some families in South Carolina are getting help doing their taxes this year thanks to the United Way.
    
The organization has set up a hotline staffed by volunteers offering free tax assistance. The help is open to families statewide that make less than $50,000. People can dial 2-1-1 from any phone, 24 hours a day, and set up an appointment from now until April 15.
    
United Way's South Carolina call center has logged more than 10,000 calls for tax help so far this year. More than 6,800 appointments have been set up.
