Deputies investigating shooting at nightclub

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Sumter County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting at a Broad St. nightclub early Sunday morning.

Deputies were called to Club Miami on Broad Street in Sumter at about 4:30 Sunday morning where a man had been shot in the chest.

The victim was taken to the hospital where deputies say he will need surgery. The victim's name has not been released. 

The first arriving deputies chased the suspects, who drove off.  The suspects crashed near West Dial St. and Antelope Dr. and deputies managed to catch one suspect.

Disabled children trying to win adaptive bikes

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS)- A Midlands boy and girl that have been limited from enjoying life's little joys are hoping that people in the Midlands will take a few minutes to vote for them in a contest that will give 14 children very expensive adaptive bicycles.

6-year-old Kamran Lloyd has arthrogryposis and has never been able to ride a bicycle, nor has his mother been able to purchase one that would allow him to do so.

A Sumter woman who is being treated for cancer won $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5.

She told lottery officials before going to bed she checked her lottery ticket online for Wednesday night’s drawing. 

The woman stayed up all night wondering if the numbers she picked (7, 22, 24, 30, and 31), like her brother’s birth date and the age she was when she had her first born, were in fact worth $200,000.

“Just let this be so,” she repeated to herself. 

She rescheduled a doctor’s appointment anxious to have the Lottery take a look at the ticket.

SC unemployment down again to 8.8% in April

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - South Carolina's unemployment rate has dropped for a ninth straight month.

The Department of Employment and Workforce said Friday the state's jobless rate was 8.8% in April, down from 8.9% the month before.

The state added 13,500 jobs last month, with most coming in the leisure and hospitality industries. The only sector to see a decrease in jobs was government.

Check those lottery tickets, Sumter folks. One of you may be sitting on a Palmetto Cash 5 ticket worth $200,000, according to the state Lottery Commission.

Officials say the winning ticket drew all five numbers drawn and the power-up option was purchased.

The ticket was purchased at the Sumter Shop on South Guignard Drive in Sumter.

Investigators say apartment fire was arson

SUMTER, SC (WIS)- Fire investigators in Sumter say a fire at an apartment complex that left 19 people without a home Wednesday morning was arson.

The Sumter Fire Department says at about 12:10 a.m. Wednesday,  someone deliberately set the fire in an apartment at Oak Land Plantation apartments on Edgehill Rd.  Nobody was home in the apartment where the fire started.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Department is looking for the suspected arsonist.
