The Sumter County Library, in celebration of Black History Month, presents Sharon-Cooper Murray on Monday, February 25th at 5:30pm at the Main Library. 

Learn all about Gullah culture in an exciting performance. This program is free and open to all.

On February 12, the TwinCity Outreach Mission will celebrate the official unveiling and National Press Conference of the Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune South Carolina License Plate.

On June 19, 2012, a General bill was passed by the South Carolina House and Senate and signed into law by Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina on June 26, 2012 for a special license plate in the name of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune.

Dr. Bethune is the first African American to be honored with this prestigious distinction.

Her work with Martin Luther King, Jr., and the NAACP has been honored with numerous accolades including the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal and Spingam Medal.
