Have you ever ginned cotton? You can this year at the South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s (SCDA) interactive displays inside the Cantey Building at the South Carolina State Fair.

On Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at 10 a.m., the South Carolina State Museum will officially break ground on its long-planned major expansion, Windows to New Worlds.

The $23 million expansion will add a state-of-the-art observatory, digital dome planetarium and theater, and immersive 4D Theater to the museum’s four floors of art, history, natural history and science/technology.

The expansion will add or renovate approximately 70,000 square feet of space at the museum’s historic building at 301 Gervais St. in Columbia.
