Build a Burger Day at the State Farmers Market

The SC Beef Council in cooperation with the SC Department of Agriculture is hosting Build a Burger Day on Saturday, August 18 at the State Farmers Market, 3483 Charleston Hwy. in West Columbia. Market visitors and families getting ready for the start of the new school year are invited to enjoy a free beef burger from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. or while supplies last.

Build a Burger Day is part of the 5th anniversary of the Certified South Carolina Grown Summer Celebrations which runs through the end of Farmers Market Month in August.

Agribusinesses across the state are donating everything needed to build a burger. FPL Food's West Columbia facility is donating enough beef for 250 burgers. C. F. Sauer located in Mauldin, will provide the condiments.  Sara Lee Bakery in Orangeburg is donating buns and Food Lion is supplying bottled water.

When you get to the State Farmers Market, just follow the wonderful aroma to Wholesale Lane. After you eat, spend some time checking out the fresh fruits and vegetables in the farmers sheds. There you can find great items to fill those back to school lunch bags. You might also want to spend time talking with the farmers and learning about all the benefits of shopping at the State Farmers Markets as well as the 120 community farmers markets across the state.
