Food Lion and General Mills Offer Customers Opportunity to Help Their Local Schools

Starting today through Tuesday, Jan. 8, Food Lion shoppers may help their local schools earn up to $20,000 by collecting box tops from specially-marked General Mills products.

The “Return to School” program offers customers the opportunity to purchase any six specially-marked General Mills products at any Food Lion store, and collect the box tops to earn money for their local school. Food Lion also participates in events throughout the year to support the Box Tops for Education program.

One Week Left to Donate to MLK Honor the Dream Food Drive

The City of Columbia, Richland One School District and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation have been hosting the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Honor the Dream Food Drive since late November and it will end in one week on January 11, 2013.

Cardholders to receive free admission first weekend of Jan.

Bank of America is giving bank cardholders free admission to some of the most exciting cultural venues nationwide.

Saturday, January 5 and Sunday, January 6 Bank of America will offer cardholders free access to more than 150 cultural institutions in 91 cities across the United States.

In Columbia, residents and visitors can enjoy free admission to EdVenture Children’s museum.

Nominations are being accepted for the 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Keeper Scholarships. The Dream Keeper award recognizes exemplary displays of committed service to the tenets of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The ideals of social responsibility, political empowerment, diversity, racial harmony, nonviolence, and unselfish service must be demonstrated voluntarily by the nominee.

Red Cross Encourages Public to Give Hope to Those in Need this Holiday Season

During the 2012 holiday season, the American Red Cross is asking everyone to support the Red Cross mission by giving something meaningful – giving hope to those in need.

The 2012 American Red Cross Holiday Giving Campaign runs through the end of the year. People can support Red Cross services by making a financial donation or giving blood.
