Celebrate Food Check-Out Week the local way | Events

Food Check-Out Week is February 19-25. A great way to celebrate the week that most Americans will have earned enough disposable income to pay for their food for the entire year is to shop local and buy Certified South Carolina. 

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture wants you to ‘check out’ Food Check-Out Week starting with a visit to the Certified SC Winter Indoor Market held Saturday, February 18, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Corbett Building at the State Farmers Market in West Columbia. Food Check-Out Week is a national celebration that traces its roots back here to South Carolina in the 1990s and the “Tax Freedom Day” championed by now South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers.

The Certified SC Winter Indoor Market is the place to support local growers who are selling a wide variety of fresh SC Grown produce. Other items unique to South Carolina offered by the SC Specialty Foods Association members  include: goat milk soap, Shea butter, and body scrubs; soy candles, SC‐made painted crafts and jewelry; gourmet salt, rubs, baking and dessert mixes; honey, syrup, sauces, dips, jams, and jellies; cookies, cakes, breads, and other baked goods

You will find these products and more at the Certified SC Indoor Winter Farmers Market each Saturday through March 31st from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Corbett Building located at the State Farmers Market, 3483 Charleston Highway in West Columbia.
