$200k lottery ticket sold in Wedgefield

If you purchased a Palmetto Cash 5 ticket from Battens at 2070 Highway 261 S. in Wedgefield for Friday’s drawing, you might be $200,000 richer today.

At Batten's, they're known for a few things, an early morning country breakfast, live bait, hunting and fishing licenses and several big cash lottery winners.

"Everybody says 'sell me the winning ticket!' 'sell me the winning ticket!' I'm like, 'I’ll try my best," said Shannon Ardis, Batten’s Manager.

Ardis could very well have sold the 200-thousand dollar Palmetto Cash Five winning ticket. But right now nobody seems to know.

"I’d love to know who it is," said Ardis.

Glise Earnhardt co-owner of Batten's said "We'd like to see one of our own get some money."

Regulars come to batten's for the food, friendship and some who come every day just for lottery tickets.

"We have a lot of people who play every day and those who just play on the weekend and those who just play on Friday when they get their paycheck and we have a group that plays here," said Earnhardt, who co-owns Batten’s with her husband.

"We've had some big winners, a $300,000 winner, a couple $25,000 and I think a $200,000,” Earnhardt added. "We've had some lucky winners."

A Palmetto Cash 5 ticket for the December 9 drawing matched all five numbers drawn. The ticket holder “Powered-Up” for an additional $1, to double their $100,000 winnings to $200,000.

More than 5,200 Palmetto Cash 5 players won prizes from $1 up to $200,000 in Friday’s drawing. Of these, more than 3,000 players spent an extra $1 to purchase the Power-Up multiplier and will have their winnings multiplied by two when claimed.

Proceeds from every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery are returned to the state in the form of funding for education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services
