Palmetto Pro Open Main Draw Begins! | News

Tuesday evening slowed to a standstill and had to resume on Wednesday due to inclement weather with Cecilia Costa Melgar (CHI) and Haley Carter (USA) only into their match of about forty minutes.  Although we had to miss out on their play Tuesday evening, the ladies did not let up on their game Wednesday.  After 2 hours and fifteen minutes added on it brought their match up to approximately three hours of play with two tie breakers of 6-7(5) 6-2 7-6(6).  Cecilia Costa Melgar (CHI) will move to the round of sixteen to play Nicola Slater (GBR).    Long matches were not limited to one today along with another upset of the number 3 seed Alyona Sotnikova (UKR).  Jan Abaza (USA) and Alyona took their skills to a full three hours and fifteen minutes in the warm South Carolina heat.  Abaza prevailed with two tie breakers 7-6(4) 7-6(4). 

The Feature Match scheduled for Thursday evening is going to be exciting for those tennis enthusiasts itching for a great doubles match! The event will showcase Anamika Bharagava (USA) the number 3 seed and Sylvia Krywacz (USA) vs. Paulina Bigos (POL) and Denise Muresan (USA).   Match begins at 7PM, Admission is free!  Professional Tennis in Sumter, South Carolina is here! 

The tournament is held at the Palmetto Tennis Center, 400 Theatre Drive in Sumter. Admission to this event is free. Feature matches will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, May 22nd thru Thursday, May 26th. Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Finals matches will be held on May 25th, May 26th and May 27th, respectively.
