A Midlands team is petitioning to add roller derby to the X-Games.

“Well, I aimed high, because there’s a ton of derby girls, way more than what I asked for,” said Jean Gravy. “I’m trying to get 10,000 signatures.”
Internationally there are over a thousand roller derby teams, most of them dominated by females.

“That number grows so fast, it’s probably higher than that,” Jean added.

In less than 48 hours, Jean Gravy, co-founder and player with the Richland County Regulators, received more than 200 signatures.

“This is just from people that we know,” said Jean. “I haven’t even posted it on a lot of pages or anything.”

The roller sport is under consideration for the 2020 Olympics, but in Jean’s opinion she doesn’t see that happening.

“I think we’re a better fit for the X-games, because we’re a little bit of an extreme sport, and I think it would fit well with that,” said Jean.

Jean hopes to present the 10,000 signatures to ESPN.
"That’s who does the X-games,” said Jean.  “We’re hoping we can get them to hear what we’re saying, maybe sit down and talk to us and work something out."
