With Veterans Day coming up, a Red Cross volunteer by the name of Ginny Parrish-Loy, spotlights two other volunteers named Dan and Al who both happen to be veterans. According to Red Cross workers, these two guys come in everyday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and blend in as regular staff.

133rd Military Police Company heads to Afghanistan

133rd Military Police Company heads to Afghanistan

The 133rd Military Police Company of the South Carolina Army National Guard, headquartered in Timmonsville, is deploying to Afghanistan. There will be a departure ceremony on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Florence Veteran’s Park on West Radio Drive.

About 170 soldiers will deploy. The unit last deployed to Iraq in 2003.

After Thursday’s ceremony, 133rd MP Company soldiers will travel to Fort Bliss, Texas for pre-deployment training before heading to Afghanistan in mid-November. The soldiers are expected to be in Afghanistan for about nine months.

While Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, a group of kids were certainly digging into a taste of summer.
