USC faculty, staff, students on statewide tour

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Students, faculty and staff from the University of South Carolina are boarding a bus to learn more about the state.

The Carolina Nexus Tour leaves from Columbia on Monday. For five days the group will tour the state to become more familiar with the cultures, businesses and other aspects of South Carolina.

State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Mick Zais, announced Tuesday evening at a privately funded celebration that Amy McAllister-Skinner was named the 2012/2013 South Carolina Teacher of the Year.  As part of the celebration, BMW Manufacturing, the event’s premier sponsor, handed the Johnsonville High School English teacher the keys to a 2012 Alpine White BMW X3 xDrive35i equipped with the M Sport package.

More than 600 students from 24 high schools across the state gathered today to demonstrate their ability to excel in the workplace. 

 

At the 2012 Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG-SC) Career Development Conference, students spent the day competing in challenges that tested their workforce readiness skills. All of the day’s events were focused around this year’s theme: “If it is to be, it is up to me!”
