The ever popular Congaree SwampFest is a unique opportunity to celebrate the rich heritage of Lower Richland County.  The tenth annual Congaree SwampFest will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012 and Saturday, October 5, 2012. 

On Friday evening, October 5th, the weekend will begin with an Evening of BBQ, Blues & Jazz at the historic Harriet Barber House, 116 Barberville Loop and Lower Richland Boulevard, off Garners Ferry Road, Hopkins, SC.  Tickets for this fundraiser are $15.00 ($20.00 – day of event) V.I.P.

Williams-Brice Stadium to offer Bojangles'

Williams-Brice Stadium now offers Bojangles' as one of its concession options.

The Charlotte-based chicken and biscuit chain will operate out of two locations, one on the home side of the stadium and one under the new video board in the north end zone.

Bojangles' will be offering its chicken filet sandwiches, seasoned fries, and chicken supremes.

Local restaurants host fundraiser for Special Olympics SC

This month, nine participating* CiCi’s Pizza locations across South Carolina will raise money for Special Olympics South Carolina. From Monday, July 16 through Monday Aug. 13, these South Carolina CiCi’s restaurants will give guests the opportunity to purchase and personalize “Buy a Smile, Be a Fan” Special Olympics paper logos for $1. The logos will be displayed in the restaurants and all proceeds from the logo sales will benefit Special Olympics South Carolina’s state programs.

The fundraiser will conclude on Aug.

Midlands Double Dutch Team headed to Nationals

This jump rope team is on a winning streak.

This past weekend the Double Dutch Forces of Columbia competed in the world championship in Sumter.

Now the team is busy practicing before they head to nationals and grand nationals in Long beach, California.

New Mobile Version of the State Parks Website Launched

The S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism has launched a mobile version of the State Parks website to better serve people on the go.  The site at m.SouthCarolinaParks.com provides much of the same information as the regular website, except in an easier-to-read and -navigate format for mobile platforms.

The site is programmed to open if a person tries to go to www.SouthCarolinaParks.com from a mobile device, but does allow a person to revert to the regular site if the mobile version does not suit them.

On Thursday, June 14th, 2012, thousands of kids and adults at aquatics facilities around the globe will unite to set a new global record for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL).  The City of Sumter Aquatics Center is an official Host location for the 2012 WLSL record setting event, taking place at 11 am ET (3 pm GMT, 8 am PT) located at 1115 Lafayette Blvd, Sumter.  No admission from 11 am to 11:30 am.
