National Safe Boating Week kicks-off in Sumter

Millions of Americans take to the waterways for recreational boating each year for exercise and relaxation. Recreational boating is a highly enjoyable sport, but can become dangerous and risky when boaters and/or passengers fail to practice safe boating techniques. On average, approximately 700 people die each year in boating-related accidents in the U.S., and approximately 70% of these are fatalities caused by drowning. The vast majority of these accidents are caused by human error or poor judgment and not by the boat, equipment, or environmental factors.
