A representative sampling of Girl Scouts from the Fannie Ivey Service Unit #655 presented anniversary pins, patches, a reusable water bottle and information on the Forever Green Pledge to Sumter City Council Tuesday night.

Three of the girls spoke, and several Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes presented the gift bags to council members. All across the United States and around the world, Girl Scouts are leading families, schools and communities toward improving our environment and protecting our natural resources. The girls asked council to take part in our 100th Anniversary take-action project, Forever Green, by reducing plastic waste, planting a rain garden, saving energy and taking the Forever Green pledge.

City Councilwoman Ione Dwyer was a Girl Scout many years ago; the girls gave her a special token to remind her that "Once a Scout, Always a Scout!" In turn, Mrs. Dwyer told the girls that Scouting was the start of her path to leadership and congratulated them for being committed to the journey. 

Sumter Scouts are part of the Mountains to Midlands Council. They have 600 girls and 250 adult volunteers registered. They will be participating in a day of celebration in honor of the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting on Saturday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at the Sumter County Courthouse.
