The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people after a toddler was seriously burned.
According to news release, 21-year-old Donnie Latrell June and 21-year-old Shannon Simon were arrested Friday and charged with unlawful neglect of a child.
Deputies say on September 18, June and Simon placed an unreasonable risk of harm or did cause unlawfully or maliciously, bodily harm to a female toddler while under their care.

"The original complaint came to the city police department from the Augusta Burn Center. They did a preliminary investigation and found it actually happened in the county," said Sumter County Sheriff's Lt. Robert Burnish.
Investigators say the baby's bottom was placed in water over 100 degrees. Based on test results from the injury, they believe the baby was burned at home.
"This is the worst one I've ever seen on a child before," said Burnish. "It's pretty bad."
The investigators could not tell us the degree of burns on the child's body nor how long the child was held under water. The mother and boyfriend deny any wrongdoing. They say the child was hurt at daycare.
We're told the toddler has a burn on her thigh as well. It's not clear when this injury happened or if it's related to this case. But, investigators say they are not aware of any other child abuse.
