Photo Gallery | 9 month undercover drug operation ends with multiple arrests

Following a nine month undercover drug operation, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit made multiple arrests and seized quantities of crack cocaine, cocaine, marijuana, and prescription controlled substances.

During the week of January 7th through January 11th, Agents with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested, charged, and transported the following individuals to the Sumter Lee Detention Center, according to a news release. CLICK HERE TO SEE LIST

The report said one subject from Florida was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana when he was stopped for a traffic violation on Interstate 95.  James Michael Johnson of Fort Lauderdale Florida was charged with speeding, driving under suspension and PWID Marijuana after approximately (8) pounds of Marijuana valued at $16000.00 was found in his vehicle during an inventory of his vehicle after being arrested for the traffic offenses.

Another stop on I-95 of Stephen Johnson yielded a seizure of approximately 120 pounds of marijuana valued at $240,000.00.

Another person, Shakil Miller of Columbia was charged with Counterfeit Goods after a separate traffic stop in Sumter.  Miller was charged with Driving Under Suspension and during an inventory of his vehicle after his arrest, a case of counterfeit Nike Shoes was found.  Both were taken to the Detention center and have had the bond hearings.

Two of these suspects, Wayne Taylor and Gregory Brunson were already incarcerated with the South Carolina Department of Corrections and our warrants were sent to that agency to be served.

Also during this time frame the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Division were working several cases of stolen copper from various homes and businesses around the county and as a result of this investigation 9 suspects were arrested and charged.

All suspects were arrested and transported to the Sumter/Lee Regional Detention Center where they all had bond hearings.

Deputies say they still have outstanding warrants on several individuals and are currently looking for them at this time.
