The Sumter Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Unit, with the assistance of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested eight people following an undercover prostitution sting.

Police conducted the sting on Thursday, after receiving numerous tips that female suspects were soliciting sexual favors for money in the South Sumter area.

According to police, undercover officers posed as “Streetwalkers” and “Johns” in several different locations around the Manning Avenue area where they were approached and offered money in exchange for sex acts.

The offenders were then arrested and transported to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.

All of the suspects have been released on a personal recognizance bond and are scheduled to appear in Municipal Court on March 7, 2013.
