Sumter Police are investigating a domestic dispute that turned violent between a husband and wife Monday  night.

Police say 24-year-old Brittany Mackie was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting her husband in the face with a handgun.

The report said at approximately 9:00 p.m., police responded to 322 South Street in reference to a shooting incident that occurred at the residence.

When officers arrived at the scene they found 26-year-old Brandon Harris lying on the floor in a bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound to the face, the report stated.

Witnesses told officers the couple had been arguing through-out the day and that during the argument they heard a gunshot.

Mackie was interviewed by detectives and admitted to shooting Harris.  Officers say they recovered a .38 caliber handgun at the scene.

Mackie was arrested and is currently being held at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Harris was transported to Tuomey Regional Medical Center for initial treatment then transferred to Palmetto Health Hospital in Columbia where he is listed in critical condition.

The investigation continues and no further information is available at this time.
