SUMTER, SC (WIS) - Three people have been arrested in connection with two purse snatchings at area grocery stores.
On September 3rd, a man was reported to have grabbed a purse from a customer at the Piggly Wiggly on Broad Street. After tracing the registration of the getaway vehicle that was driven by a woman, the owner of the vehicle said his ex-wife, 30-year-old Evelyn Osborne, had the SUV.
Osborne was wanted on unrelated charges. While in custody, detectives asked her about the purse snatching, and another one that occurred two days before at the Food Lion on North Guignard Drive. Detectives say Osborne confessed, and implicated 34-year-old Stephen Dillinger and 31-year-old Shannon McLeod, both of Sumter.
One of the purses was recovered.
After bond hearings last week, police say bond was set at $10,000 for McLeod and Osborne. Dellinger's bond was set at $20,000. All were charged with two counts each of conspiracy and purse snatching.
