A fire early Wednesday morning has destroyed a dentist's office and neighboring insurance office in Sumter.

According to a Sumter County Fire Department spokesperson, the blaze happened Wednesday around 1:45 a.m. on Liberty Street.

Flames were showing through the roof when firefighters arrived.

The fire started in the Sumter Family Dental Center and then spread to Bill Denny Insurance, Captain Brian Horton said.

Fire officials estimate the blaze did $500,000 damage to the dentist’s office and approximately $200,000 to the insurance office.

They say the fire appears to be accidental, but no cause has been determined.

There were no injuries.
